When October rolls around it is Steelhead Time. This is casting with spawn and beads for the most part , but we do get the plugs out later in the season. I plan to fish this year untill deer season which is Nov.15.
Now is a good time to book for a late summer or fall salmon trip, some dates in August and September are still open. Salmon numbers were down last year but there was still lots of fun to be had! This is and has always been my favorite fishing on the river.
Typically where I fish , about halfway between the dam and the lake the best fishing is late feb. thru March. In April we get some great fishing for dropbacks, post spawn fish returning to the lake. There is some spawning activity in the areas we fish, but most of the gravel is near the dam and so are the people!

Reports from the big lake indicate that salmon and trout are being caught daily. The water temperatures look good which helps with the bite! I have heard of some King Salmon in the Little Manistee, which is not suprising this time of year. There should be a few starting to sneak in the big river with the next rain, it has been dry here and water levels are lower than they have been. I have not seen any fish in the Betsie River near my house. The boat is ready to go and by mid August there should be enough fish to begin the chase! I have a few open dates so come on up and enjoy a day of fishing on the Big Manistee river.
